Types of diamond tools
① Natural diamond tool: Natural diamond has been used as a cutting tool for hundreds of years. The natural single crystal diamond tool has been finely ground, and the cutting edge can be extremely sharp. The cutting edge radius can reach 0.002μm, which can realize ultra-thin cutting and can It produces extremely high workpiece accuracy and extremely low surface roughness, and is a recognized, ideal and irreplaceable ultra-precision machining tool.
② PCD diamond cutting tools: Natural diamonds are expensive, and polycrystalline diamond (PCD) is widely used in cutting. After the success, natural diamond tools have been replaced by artificial polycrystalline diamond in many occasions. PCD raw materials are rich in sources, and its price is only one tenth to one tenth of natural diamond. PCD tools cannot grind extremely sharp diamonds. The cutting edge, the surface quality of the processed workpiece is not as good as that of natural diamond, and it is not easy to manufacture PCD inserts with chipbreakers in the industry. CVD diamond has the exact same structure and characteristics as natural diamond. The performance of CVD diamond is very close to that of natural diamond. It has the advantages of natural single crystal diamond and polycrystalline diamond (PCD), and overcomes their shortcomings to a certain extent.

The high-quality natural diamond is selected, and the natural diamond single crystal is welded to the tool shank by a special welding process. It is mainly used for aspheric and free optical surface processing, Wiener processing, ultra-precision processing, etc.

 The single crystal diamond tool is brittle, the blade is very sharp, and it is prone to chipping when it is impacted. Therefore, it should be used under balanced and vibration-free working conditions as much as possible. At the same time, the rigidity of the workpiece and the tool and the rigidity of the entire system should be improved as much as possible. To increase its anti-seismic capacity, it is advisable that the cutting amount be less than 0.05mm.
Higher cutting speed can reduce the cutting force, while low-speed cutting will increase the cutting force, thereby accelerating the tool chipping failure. Therefore, the cutting speed should not be too low when using single crystal diamond tools.

④ It has high thermal conductivity: the thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity of diamond are high, the cutting heat is easily dissipated, and the temperature of the cutting part of the tool is low.
⑤ Has a low thermal expansion coefficient: The thermal expansion coefficient of diamond is several times smaller than that of cemented carbide, and the change in tool size caused by cutting heat is small, which is particularly important for precision and ultra-precision machining that require high dimensional accuracy.
