Cutting speed
Diamond tool has the characteristics of high hardness, high compressive strength, good thermal conductivity and wear resistance, which can obtain high machining accuracy and processing efficiency in high-speed cutting. The above characteristics of the diamond tool are determined by the crystal state of the diamond. In diamond crystals, the four valence electrons of carbon atoms are bonded by tetrahedral structure, and each carbon atom forms a covalent bond with four adjacent atoms, thus forming a diamond structure, which has a strong binding force and directivity, so that diamond has extremely high hardness. Because the structure of polycrystalline diamond (PCD) is a fine crystalline diamond sintered body with different orientation, the hardness and wear resistance of PCD are still lower than that of single crystalline diamond although the binder is added. However, because the PCD sintered body is isotropic, it is not easy to crack along a single cleavage plane.
Diamond "PCD" is specialized in the finishing of copper, aluminum alloy, cemented carbide, graphite, ceramics and high hard wear-resistant materials. It has the characteristics of long service life, high production efficiency, high surface finish and high processing precision. Higher processing efficiency and lower cost than carbide and natural diamond tools, widely used in automobiles, diesel engines, motorcycles, aerospace, home appliances, instruments and precision machinery and other industries.
The selection of PCD particle size is related to the processing conditions of the tool, such as the design of the tool for finishing or super-finishing, should be selected with high strength, good toughness, good impact resistance, fine grain PCD. Coarse grain PCD tools can be used for general roughing. The particle size of PCD material has a significant effect on the wear and damage performance of the tool. The research shows that the larger the PCD size, the stronger the abrasion resistance of the tool. PCD particle size is submicron, 2μm, 5μm, 10μm, 25μm and 2~30μm, of which 10μm particle size CDW010 material for general purpose, anti-collapse blade type and wear resistance are good, in general, the larger the particle size, blade material more wear resistance, and mixed particle size 2~30μm CDW302 material better wear resistance. As shown in the figure, there is a comparison of the skid resistance and wear resistance of different PCD particle sizes, as well as a comparison of discharge characteristics and grindability.
The high hardness of PCD makes its material removal rate extremely low (even only one millionth of the removal rate of cemented carbide). At present, the grinding process of PCD tool mainly adopts ceramic bonded diamond grinding wheel. Because grinding between grinding wheel abrasives and PCD is the interaction between two materials with similar hardness, the grinding law is more complicated. For high granularity and low speed grinding wheels, the use of water-soluble coolant can improve the grinding efficiency and grinding accuracy of PCD. The choice of grinding wheel bond should depend on the type of grinding machine and processing conditions. Because EDG technology is almost not affected by the hardness of the workpiece being ground, it has great advantages to use EDG technology to grind PCD. The grinding of some complex shape PCD tools (such as woodworking tools) also has a huge demand for this flexible grinding process. With the continuous development of EDG grinding technology, EDG technology will become a main development direction of PCD grinding.
