PCD tools can be machined at very high spindle speed, but the influence of cutting speed on machining quality cannot be ignored.Although high speed cutting can improve the machining efficiency, the increase of cutting temperature and cutting force can cause the tip breakage and vibration of the machine tool.When different workpiece materials are processed, the reasonable cutting speed of PCD tool is also different. For example, the reasonable cutting speed of milling Al2O3 laminate floor is 110~120m/min.The reasonable cutting speed of turning SiC particle reinforced aluminum matrix composites and silicon oxide matrix engineering ceramics is 30~40m/min.
If the PCD tool feed is too large, the residual geometric area on the workpiece will increase, resulting in the increase of surface roughness;If the feed is too small, it will increase the cutting temperature and reduce the cutting life.
The high hardness of THE PCD results in extremely low material removal rate (even less than 1/10000 of the removal rate of cemented carbide).At present, the PCD tool grinding process mainly USES the ceramic binder diamond wheel for grinding.
Because grinding of grinding wheel abrasive and PCD is the interaction between two kinds of materials with similar hardness, its grinding rule is quite complicated.
The application of water-soluble coolant can improve the grinding efficiency and precision of PCD for high granularity and low speed grinding wheel.
The selection of grinding wheel binder should depend on the type of grinding machine and processing conditions.
Because EDG technology is almost not affected by the hardness of the workpiece being ground, it has a great advantage to use EDG technology to grind PCD.
The grinding of some PCD tools with complex shapes, such as woodworking tools, also has a great demand for this flexible grinding process.
With the continuous development of EDG technology, EDG technology will become a major development direction of PCD grinding.
